Medical care during pregnancy in Austria is usually overseen by your gynecologist (Frauenarzt). There are five mandatory examinations during pregnancy and five mandatory examinations after birth. The results of these examinations are recorded in the mother-child booklet (Mutter-Kind Pass).

Expectant mothers living in Vienna who want to give birth in a public hospital have to register online. If you choose to give birth in a private hospital, you should register directly with the establishment of your choice as early as possible. -
Every pregnant woman in Austria is entitled to a free consultation with a midwife in her 20th week of pregnancy.
In addition, every woman who has public health insurance has the right to five home visits by a midwife after the birth. -
