In this section, you will find a list of the important administrative tasks you need to accomplish after the birth of your child and how to best prepare for them, from registering the birth and getting a birth certificate to getting a passport.

If you would like to give birth in a public hospital, it is important to register as early as possible.
You also need to inform your employer about your pregnancy as soon as it has been confirmed.

While English is widely used in Vienna, all official documents should be translated into German by a sworn translator.
Please note that even if some offices accept an English translation of documents, that is rather the exception, not the rule.
