If you are not sure how ill your child is or where best to take them, you can contact the new health advice telephone number 1450 (no area code from all networks) around the clock. Here you will receive competent advice and be directed to the best treatment location for you. If there is no acute medical emergency, specially trained health and nursing staff will recommend a course of action. In urgent cases, you will be forwarded to the professional rescue service or the Vienna Medical Service.

Where to find help on weekdays
Your pediatrician or your general practitioner should be the first point of contact. If your own pediatrician is not on duty, the Children’s Outpatient Department – My Health Center Floridsdorf is available from Monday to Friday. Please check their website for opening hours. You should make an appointment when possible. You can also turn up without an appointment but need to come early (before 12.00 from Monday -Thursday and before 10.00 on a Friday).
The KIZ Augarten Children’s Medical Center is also available to care for acutely ill children but they do not treat emergencies.
Where to find help on weekends, public holidays or at night
If your child’s condition means you cannot wait until the next day to see a doctor, you have different options, depending on your child’s age:
- Contact one of the on-call doctors using this list, which details which doctors are open on specific weekends and bank holidays.
- Contact the Vienna Medical Service on 141. You can reach the Vienna Medical Service throughout the night from 19:00 until 07:00, on weekends from Friday, 19:00 until Monday, 07:00, and all day on public holidays. They will advise you over the phone and, if necessary, send a doctor to your home.
If your baby is younger than one year (do not call 141 – the doctors of the Vienna Medical Service do not have the equipment that would be necessary to treat an infant), go to one of the children’s emergency rooms (Kinderambulanz). - Go to the KinderNotDienst
Doctors from the KinderNotDienst – KiND are available to you at the AKH and Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Spital. The pediatricians on duty there decide whether the little patient needs to be treated by them or by the emergency room staff on duty. - Go to the KIZ Augarten Children’s Medical Centre
Acutely ill children can also be treated at the KIZ Augarten Children’s Medical Center on weekends and public holidays . However, there are no emergency facilities.
